Safe & Effective?

After a gruelling two year pandemic, I think it's safe to say that what all we wanted was a taste of normality. Lives had been lost, businesses crumbled, relationships fell apart and mental health suffered; so how was the world going to move forward from this?

When rumours of a vaccine came to fruition, most of the population were quick to jump at the chance to restore normality; whilst those who didn't were hastily labelled as problematic, despite the hesitancy arising from the suspiciously quick turn around and lack of long term data.

Nevertheless, said vaccine was dangled over us like a donkey with a carrot. "Want to go to your best friends wedding? How about a restaurant? A holiday? How about keeping your job? Or what about being allowed certain treatments in hospital? Well you'll need the vaccine (and more) to keep those basic rights."Has there ever been a vaccine that has been marketed to us in such a way, that the advantageous benefits such as having the ability to travel abroad or just go to work, outweigh the supposed health benefits?

Every mainstream news outlet and social media platform enforced the theory that this vaccine was going to save the world. That the vaccine itself was safe and effective and that it had no side effects, whilst simultaneously teasing us with glimpse of normality, for what they deemed as a fair trade for taking one for the team. In their eyes, nothing could go wrong and it was pivotal for the future, so there should be no hesitation to take this life changing vaccine, but let me tell you... it has changed many lives, but not in the way we were told.
